If you enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) passcode and are immediately sent back to the login screen, Google Chrome is likely holding onto old sign-in data that is interfering with the process. Follow the two steps below to test and fix this issue.
Note: This guide is for administrators signing in at home.turnitin.com. Step 1 lets you quickly check if old browser data is the problem before you delete anything.
Step 1: Test using an Incognito window
An Incognito (private) window opens Chrome without using your saved history or temporary files.
- Open a new Incognito window:
- Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard
- Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + N on your keyboard
- Go directly to: https://home.turnitin.com/sign-in.
- Sign in with your administrator email and password, request your passcode, and enter the code.
What happened during your test?
- You logged in successfully: Old browser data in your standard Chrome profile is causing the loop. Move on to Step 2 to fix it permanently.
- You were sent back to the login screen again: The problem is not your browser's saved data. Check that your computer's date and time are set automatically, or contact your institution's primary account administrator to confirm your administrator access is active.
Step 2: Clear saved browser data in Chrome
Clearing your stored sign-in cookies will reset Chrome and allow you to log in normally.
- Open a normal (non-Incognito) Chrome window.
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and select Settings (or type
chrome://settingsin the address bar). - In the left menu, select Privacy and security.
- Select Delete browsing data (or Clear browsing data).
- Click the Advanced tab at the top.
- Set the Time range to All time.
- Check the box for Cookies and other site data. (You can uncheck everything else, like browsing history or passwords).
- Click Delete data (or Clear data).
- Close all Chrome windows completely, open Chrome again, and sign in to Turnitin.
Important: Clearing cookies will sign you out of most other websites you are currently using in Chrome. Make sure to save any open work before clicking Delete data.
