How do I remove a self-match from a Similarity Report?

The Turnitin system is set up to automatically exclude matches for submissions made by the same student to different assignments in the same class. If you notice a self-match has not been excluded, it could be that the student submitted two papers to different assignments in the same class within a short space of time. In this situation, the self-matches can be removed by refreshing the reports.

  • If you are using the Classic Similarity Report, you can refresh the reports by following the guidance in our Help Guides
  • If you are using the Enhanced Similarity Report and the New Standard Assignment, you can use the Refresh Reports button in the assignment inbox or ask the students to resubmit the paper.

If you wish to remove a matching paper submitted by a student to a different class, we recommend you exclude the source in the Similarity Report. There is no need to submit a paper deletion request to your administrator.

  • If you are using the Classic Similarity Report you can exclude the matching source by following the guidance here.
  • If you are using the Enhanced Similarity Report, you can exclude the match by following the guidance here.
