Do you need to find the submission ID for a deleted paper, with the purpose of providing it to your account administrator so they can permanently delete the submission? Or do you need the paper restored for a purpose other than deletion? Please review the following options to see what the best course of action is.
Option 1: You need the submission ID because your end goal is to delete the paper
If your goal is permanent deletion, find the Submission ID and send it to your Turnitin administrator. They can use the Manage Submissions tool to delete it.
⚠️ Please note that Turnitin no longer restores papers solely for deletion purposes.
Can't find the Submission ID? Your admin can still find and delete the paper using the Assignment ID. Here is how to find it:
- Classic Standard Assignments: Look at the page URL when you are in the assignment inbox. The ID is the long string of numbers at the end (e.g., .../inbox/XXXXXXXXX?lang=en_us).
- New Standard Assignments: Open the assignment, expand the details box in the top right corner, and copy the Assignment ID.
- Was the class already deleted? Don't worry. Your admin can still locate and delete the paper by searching for the student’s email address in the Manage Submissions tool.
⚠️ Warning: Once an administrator permanently deletes a paper, it is gone for good and cannot be restored.
For more guidance, please review our Paper Deletion FAQs.
Option 2: You need to restore the paper for another purpose
⚠️This option only applies to Classic Standard Assignments. If you are using the New Standard Assignment experience (guidance here), papers can only be permanently deleted, so this process is not applicable.
If you are not trying to delete the paper and need it restored to your account for another purpose, please contact Technical Support, confirming why you would like the paper restored and provide the following details so we can locate it:
- The student's email address.
- An active Paper ID from another student in that same assignment.
