If you are unable to click the filter icon to exclude sources or refine a Similarity Report, this usually happens for one of two reasons:
1. The Class Has Expired
When an instructor's class passes its end date, the report enters a read-only state, disabling filter adjustments.
Solution: Instructors may resolve this by extending the class end date in your account settings. Once extended, report editing will be re-enabled immediately.
Note: Turnitin classes cannot be extended beyond a maximum lifespan of 5 years. If your class has reached this limit, please consider creating a new class.
2. Accessing a Report Natively for an Integration (LMS) Submission
If the submission was made through a Learning Management System (LMS) — such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, or D2L Brightspace — your institution's administrative settings may restrict direct changes made on the Turnitin native website.
In this scenario, you may see the message: "Editing has been disabled for this native account" and any attempts to adjust settings or filter sources directly on the web interface will be disabled.
Solution: Access and view your Similarity Report directly through your institution's LMS course portal rather than logging into the Turnitin native website. If your institution disables native editing, filters must be managed within the LMS environment or by your account administrator.
