Class copy recommendations in preparation for a new semester or academic year

When preparing for a new term, semester, or academic year, instructors should create a new Turnitin class or copy an existing class structure rather than re-enrolling new students in an old class.

Why copy instead of reuse? Reusing the same Turnitin class keeps past students active on the class roster. These inactive students will continue to count toward your institution's total active student license limit. Copying a class allows you to reuse your assignment structures without keeping past students enrolled.

How to copy a Turnitin class

Copying a class duplicates your assignment settings and discussion prompts without copying past student submissions or roster data:

  1. Log in to Turnitin as an instructor.
  2. Locate the class you wish to duplicate on your homepage and click the Class Copy icon (two overlapping boxes) to the right of the class name.
  3. On the setup screen, update the class name.
  4. Click Save to duplicate the class structure.
  5. On the subsequent confirmation page, select which specific assignments you want to include in the new class and adjust their start, due, and feedback release dates as needed.

Master class limitation: You can only copy standard classes. Master classes cannot be copied.
