When attempting to create an assignment within a class, instructors may sometimes experience a blank page, or the assignment creation tool may fail to load entirely.
While this can look similar to general loading errors, it is often caused by a missing configuration in your institution's Turnitin account settings.
If your administrator has not enabled the Standard Assignment option, the assignment tool picker will not launch, which completely prevents the creation of any new assignments.
How to Solve
To resolve this, the Turnitin administrator for your institution will need to update the account or sub-account settings.
If you are an instructor, please share this article with your Turnitin administrator and request that they follow the steps below. If you are the account administrator, please complete these steps:
Log in to your Turnitin administrator account
Optional: if you manage more than one institutional account, select the relevant one from the Account List
Navigate to the Settings area
Locate and check the box next to Standard Assignment
Once checked, additional options will appear, allowing you to choose between New, Classic, or Instructor Choice. Select the option that best fits your institution's needs.

Once these settings are updated and saved, instructors will immediately be able to create assignments in their classes as expected.
Considerations for Master Classes and Section Classes
Assignments cannot be created directly within a Master Class; they can only be created within individual Section Classes. However, even if the Standard Assignment checkbox is disabled at some point, a Master Class instructor may still be able to push a previous Classic assignment down to section classes. If this has occurred, the administrator needs to select the Instructor Choice setting (as detailed in step 5 above) to prevent users from being locked out of those pushed assignments.
