Why can't I create folders or upload files in iThenticate V1?

If the option to create a new folder is missing or if you are prompted to purchase credits when uploading a new document, it may mean that your institution's account balance has run out of available submission credits.

In iThenticate V1, feature permissions are directly tied to account submission credits. When an account balance reaches zero credits:

  • The Create New Folder button disappears from the interface
  • File uploads and revision submissions are blocked
  • Users may see a system message prompting them to purchase submission credits

If you are part of an institutional account, individual users cannot purchase credits directly. Follow these steps to restore functionality:

  1. Contact your account administrator: Reach out to your institution's iThenticate account administrator (tip: check with your institution to know who this is)
  2. Administrator action: The administrator would need to contact their Account Manager or Sales Representative to purchase a new block of submission credits for the institution
  3. Automatic restoration: Once new credits are added to the institutional account balance, both the Create New Folder button and file upload functionality will automatically reappear for all linked users

Note: Existing folders and previously submitted documents remain fully accessible to view and download while the credit balance is zero. Only new folder creation and new document submissions are restricted.

Individual Account Holders

If you hold an individual iThenticate account rather than an institutional account, your submission credits are managed personally. You will need to purchase additional credits directly through your account settings to restore folder creation and file upload permissions.
