When attempting to upload a document to iThenticate, you may encounter an error message indicating that your account's indexing limit has been reached:
Error message: Indexing limit has been reached for this repository.
Cause
Your institution's iThenticate license includes a maximum limit for the number of documents that can be stored (indexed) in your account's private repository. Once this repository limit is reached, no additional files can be saved to it.
Resolution
Select your role below to view the recommended workarounds and resolutions:
Option 1: Upload without saving to the repository
If your manuscript does not need to be stored in the private repository for future similarity matching, you can bypass the indexing error by generating a report only:
- Click Upload File.
- In the upload options menu, select Generate report only.
- Proceed with file submission to generate your Similarity Report.
Note: Selecting Generate report only allows you to check the document for similarity without adding it to the institutional repository.
Option 2: Permanently delete unused files from the repository
Deleting files from your main document folder moves them to the Trash folder, but they remain indexed until completely purged. To free up repository capacity, permanently delete unnecessary files:
- Move unwanted files to the Trash folder.
- Navigate to the Trash folder in your menu.
- Select the checkbox next to the document(s) you wish to permanently delete.
- Click the Delete button.
Warning: Deleting a document from the Trash folder removes it from the repository and your account permanently. This action cannot be undone.
If you still require repository indexing and cannot delete existing files, contact your institution's iThenticate Account Administrator.
If users across your institution are consistently encountering repository indexing limits, your account may need additional capacity.
Please contact your iThenticate Account Manager to discuss expanding your institution's repository storage limits.
