Turnitin has launched a Trust Center designed to be a one-stop resource for administrators, educators and students who are curious about how we approach AI within our products and protect customer and student data.
The Trust Center outlines our AI design principles, AI definitions, how AI is used in our products, what you can control and our full privacy policy.
There are three key points that we feel are important to highlight:
- We do not train a generative AI model, or LLM. We have no plans to build a generative AI model or LLM using student essays.
- We do train a classifier model for our AI detection tool. A classifier categorizes or labels existing data, returning a numeric prediction about AI writing. It does not write, rewrite or produce text.
- If customers do not have Turnitin Originality with AI detection enabled, current student data is not used for training our classifier AI model. If a customer does have Turnitin Originality with AI detection enabled, current student data is anonymized and may be used to train our classifier AI model
We hope that you find this resource valuable and welcome your feedback and questions.
