Troubleshooting Login Issues for Similarity and SimCheck

If you are having trouble logging into your Similarity or SimCheck account, it is often related to how your credentials are being entered or the way you are trying to access your account. Please follow the troubleshooting steps below to regain access.

1. Verify you are using the correct URL

All Similarity and SimCheck licenses require users to log in via a specific Tenant URL unique to their institution. Attempting to log in through the general turnitin.com or turnitinuk.com homepage will not work for these products.

  • The Format: Your login page will follow this format: https://yourinstitution.turnitin.com

  • Action: Ensure you are using your institution's dedicated link. If you do not know your specific URL, please contact your account administrator to obtain it.

2. Use your username, not your email

A common reason for login failure is entering an email address in the username field.

  • Action: Ensure you are entering your unique username and your password. Your email address will not work as a substitute for your username on the login screen.

3. Check for case-sensitivity

Your username is case-sensitive. If you do not use the exact capitalization used when your account was first created, the system will not recognize the login attempt.

  • Action: Verify that your "Caps Lock" is off and that you are matching the uppercase and lowercase letters of your username exactly.

4. Contact your administrator for username recovery

If you have forgotten your exact username or are unsure of the correct capitalization:

  • Action: Reach out to your account administrator at your institution. They have the ability to look up your account details and provide you with your correct username.

5. Resetting your password

If you are certain your username and capitalization are correct but still cannot log in, you may need to reset your password.

  • Action: Select Forgot Password from the login page.

  • What happens next: Turnitin will send password reset instructions to the email address registered to your account.

Note: For more details on password requirements please view our guide on changing your password here.
