Instructors using the Turnitin integration in Microsoft Teams may encounter the following error notification when viewing an assignment:
"The membership service encountered some errors. Error fetching membership URL."
When this occurs, the roster sync task has failed due to missing role permissions. While students are still able to upload files, the instructor will not see all students from the Team (course) populated within the assignment view.
Resolution
To resolve this error, the Turnitin app permissions must be updated to grant full permissions within the Teams environment.
Note: Resolving this issue requires administrative access. If you are an instructor, you will need to share these steps with your institution's Microsoft or IT Administrator.
Please follow these steps within your Microsoft environment:
- Log in to the Microsoft Admin Center.
- Navigate to Identity.
- Select Applications, then click on Enterprise Applications.
- Search for "Turnitin" in the application list.
- Click on Permissions.
- Select Grant admin consent.
