In the Moodle Direct integration submission inbox, a student may sometimes be displayed with the status Non Moodle User.
Definition: A Non Moodle User is a student who successfully submitted work to a Turnitin assignment, but is no longer recognized as an active, enrolled student in the corresponding Moodle course.
Common cause
This status usually occurs when a student completes the following sequence of events:
- The student enrolls in a Moodle course containing a Turnitin assignment.
- The student submits a paper to the Turnitin assignment.
- The student is subsequently removed or dropped from the Moodle course.
Because Turnitin retains the submission for grading and Similarity reporting, but Moodle no longer finds the active student record, Moodle flags the user as a "Non Moodle User."
Resolution
Select your role below for instructions on how to clear this status:
If the student was accidentally removed from the course or needs their status restored:
- Re-enroll the student into the Moodle course.
- Open the Turnitin assignment submission inbox in Moodle.
- Select the Turnitin Students tab.
- Click Enroll All Students to force a fresh roster sync between Moodle and Turnitin.
Once the sync completes, the "Non Moodle User" label will disappear, and the student's standard profile name will be restored.
If the student is already enrolled in the course but still displays as a "Non Moodle User," there may be a broken user mapping between Moodle and Turnitin. Moodle administrators can reset the mapping using the Unlink/Relink Users tool:
- Log in to Moodle as a Site Administrator.
- Navigate to Site Administration > Plugins > Plugins Overview.
- Select Settings for the Turnitin Assignment 2 plugin.
- Go to the Unlink Users tab and locate the impacted student.
- Select the option to unlink the user mapping.
- Ask the instructor to open the Turnitin assignment inbox and click Enroll All Students to recreate the user mapping and refresh the roster.
