When attempting to open a student submission for grading in Feedback Studio (by selecting the blue pencil icon in your Moodle inbox), you may encounter the following error message:
Error message: You are not allowed to view this paper. M20: 16
Cause
This error occurs when the associated Turnitin class has expired. When a class expires in Turnitin, instructors are temporarily blocked from launching Feedback Studio to view or grade papers.
Resolution
To extend an expired Turnitin class and restore access to student submissions, you must extend the Moodle course end date and sync it with Turnitin:
Step 1: Extend your Moodle course end date
- Log in to Moodle and navigate to your course settings.
- Set the Course End Date to a future date.
- Save your changes.
Step 2: Sync the updated end date with Turnitin
- Open the impacted Turnitin assignment in Moodle.
- Access the assignment Summary Screen.
- Select the pencil icon next to the assignment section to enter edit mode.
- Click Submit (or Save) without making any changes to force a re-sync with Turnitin.
Once synced, the Turnitin class will extend its end date, allowing you to click the blue pencil icon and view the paper in Feedback Studio again.
If instructors continue to report this error after following the re-sync steps, verify your Moodle plugin version:
Plugin version requirement: This sync workflow applies to Turnitin Moodle plugin releases from June 2021 onwards. If your institution is using an older plugin release, please upgrade to the latest supported plugin version.
