When accessing a Multipart assignment through your Learning Management System (LMS), you may encounter a missing assignment part or an error message when attempting to view the assignment.
Symptoms
You may experience one of the following issues:
- An assignment part is completely missing from the assignment overview screen.
- You see a data loading error when attempting to open the assignment:
Error Message: Error loading data (Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'studentHasViewed))
Cause
This issue occurs when a Multipart assignment is created in the LMS, but one or more of its parts have not yet been opened or launched by the instructor.
In Turnitin, assignment parts must be accessed by an instructor at least once to fully initialize and sync the configuration with the LMS system.
Resolution
Please select your role below for instructions on how to resolve this issue:
To initialize the missing or unlinked assignment part and make it accessible:
- Log in to your LMS.
- Navigate to the relevant course page.
- Locate and click on the missing assignment part once to launch it.
Note: Clicking the assignment part once completes the initialization process in Turnitin. The part will instantly appear in the overview for both you and your students, and any related loading errors will be cleared.
If you are encountering this error or notice a part is missing, you will need your course instructor to initialize the assignment.
- Contact your instructor or course administrator.
- Ask them to log into the LMS course page and click on the affected assignment part once to initialize it in Turnitin.
- Once your instructor has launched the part, refresh your page to access the assignment.
