If you want to permanently delete your Turnitin account and its associated personal data, you must submit this request directly through your academic institution.
Why can't I delete my account directly?
Under data privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA, you may have the right to request the erasure of your personal data. However, because of how these laws work, Turnitin is legally classified as a data processor, while your school or university is the data controller.
What this means: Your institution officially owns and manages your academic data. By law, Turnitin cannot process deletion requests directly from individual students or users. We are required to wait for official authorization from your school before we can erase anything.
What you need to do
To safely and legally initiate the deletion of your account:
Contact your institution: Reach out to your instructor, your school's IT help desk, or your Turnitin administrator.
Raise the request: Ask them to submit an official deletion request to Turnitin on your behalf. Confirm whether you would like both your account and data deleted, or just your account.
Once your school submits a valid deletion request to our team, we will promptly and permanently remove your account and/or data from our systems.
