How can I submit on behalf of my students in Canvas LTI 1.1?

On Canvas, instructors can only resubmit on behalf of their students but do not have the option to make the first submission on their behalf. However, the option to make the first submission on behalf of a student is available to the account administrator.

The administrator needs to act as the student user in question to submit on their behalf. Below are the steps to masquerade as a student:

  • Navigate to the left-hand side and select People

  • Click on the Username you wish to act as

  • Click on User Account details

  • Click on Act as user

  • Click on Proceed

The administrator will now be acting as the selected student user and will see a purple outline of the screen view to confirm who they are acting as.

When acting as a student, the administrator needs to follow the steps below to submit a paper:

  • Navigate to the relevant course 

  • Click on the assignment you wish to submit to

  • Upload the submission and confirm
