When trying to access a Turnitin assignment through your Learning Management System (LMS), you may encounter the following error message:
Error Message: This assignment hasn't been set up yet. Ask your instructor to configure the assignment, then try again.
Cause
This message appears when an assignment has been created in your LMS (such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, or Brightspace), but the link between the LMS assignment and Turnitin has not yet been initialized.
Resolution
Please select your role below for instructions on how to resolve this error:
If you are a student receiving this message, you will not be able to view or submit to the assignment until it has been initialized by your instructor.
- Contact your instructor or course manager immediately.
- Inform them that the Turnitin assignment needs to be opened/configured in the LMS to establish the connection.
- Once your instructor has initialized the setup, refresh your page and try opening the assignment again.
If your students are receiving this message, you need to trigger the initial sync between your LMS and Turnitin.
- Log in to your LMS and navigate to the course.
- Locate and click on the assignment link to open it.
- Review or save the Turnitin assignment settings. Opening the assignment once establishes the API link and fully initializes the assignment for student submissions.
