Canvas administrators can configure an academic integrity Similarity Pledge for Turnitin submissions made via the Canvas Plagiarism Framework. Once enabled, students must check a box agreeing to the pledge statement before submitting their assignment.
Warning: Once the Similarity Pledge is enabled in your Canvas administrator settings, it cannot be turned off. Please ensure that your institution intends to keep this setting active before enabling it.
How to configure the Similarity Pledge
Only Canvas Administrators can set up or edit the Similarity Pledge for an account:
- Log in to Canvas with an Administrator account.
- Navigate to your Canvas Admin Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Similarity Detection Platform section.
- Locate the Similarity Pledge field.
- Check the box to enable the pledge, and customize the text phrasing if required by your institution.
- Save your settings.
What students see
When the Similarity Pledge is active, a checkbox and your custom pledge statement will appear on every Turnitin assignment submission screen in Canvas. Students must select the checkbox to confirm their work is original before Canvas allows them to complete the submission.
