How do I fix the error "oauth_consumer_key value is missing or not valid"?

When launching or configuring a Turnitin LTI 1.1 integration in your Learning Management System (LMS), you may encounter the following error message:

Error message: oauth_consumer_key value is missing or not valid

Cause

This error occurs when the Consumer Key (which corresponds to your Turnitin Account ID) entered in your LMS integration configuration page is incorrect, missing, or contains hidden formatting characters.

Resolution

This setting must be updated by an LMS Administrator:

  1. Log in to your LMS as an administrator and open the Turnitin LTI 1.1 configuration settings page.
  2. Locate the Consumer Key field.
  3. Verify that the entered Consumer Key matches your institution's official Turnitin Account ID.
  4. Re-type or copy-paste the Account ID carefully, ensuring there are no leading or trailing whitespaces or blank spaces at the beginning or end of the entry.
  5. Save the configuration settings and attempt to launch the Turnitin LTI assignment again.
